A park at every school

Nature should be part of every child’s life. We’re bringing it to their schools.

Plant Community, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, designs and builds parks modeled on local, native ecosystems with immersive outdoor learning and nature play spaces so every kid has an opportunity to grow up healthy.

Kids who play outside are happier, more confident, and less anxious.

Research shows that after spending time in nature, children have increased focus, even hours after returning indoors.

A better way to grow.

By using seeds and gravel instead of plants with mulch and weed barrier, we reduce costs to under $2/sf, less than sod installation. Our partner, Native Son Gardens, provides labor and materials at cost.

This means that we can design and install 1 acre of meadow and woodland for less than $100k. With over 200 Austin Area Public Schools, we could convert 2 acres at every public school in Austin for $36M. A park at every school would cost $36M. To put that into perspective, that is just 1.5% of the $2.44B AISD bond package passed by Austin voters in 2022.

Free & Reduced Cost Parks.

New idea, same old nature.

Parks for Title 1 schools are free, with all costs covered by Plant Community Donors (YOU!). All other schools pay only the cost of wholesale materials and labor, plus reduced overhead expenses, allowing us to create more parkland for Austin students.

Thanks to Plant Community, our school now has a beautiful outdoor space where children's imaginations thrive and memories are made. The thoughtful design enhances play for our students, making it safer and more intentional while also adding a sense of wonder to our outdoor environment.
